Global Gaming Expo change dates and location PDF Print E-mail

The annual trade show and conference Global Gaming Expo will move backwards by more than one month in 2011. The next edition will take place from October 4th through 6th and move from the Las Vegas Convention Center to the Sands Expo and Convention Center. While the Sands Expo and Convention Center has just 1.8 million square feet (including the Venetian Congress facility) of meeting space compared to the Las Vegas Convention Center's 2.3 million square feet, conference organizers believe attendees will like the shift in locations: the conference usually attracts nearly 26,000 industry professionals from around the world.

Swiss poker laws remain unchanged PDF Print E-mail

As Switzerland's Federal Council rejected two motions to change poker law the country will keep in prohibiting poker tournaments outside of casinos. After the attempt made to change the poker laws it appears that it will remain status quo for the coming years. Though Councillors from both sides of the political aisle agreed that the laws should be changed to allow poker tournaments in places other than casinos, the Federal Council was not.

International Olympic Committee will strictly monitor all betting patterns to avoid any gambling-related corruption. London 2012 is going to be the first event whose also qualifying events will be examined. IOC president Jacques Rogge has repeatedly warned of the danger to the integrity of the Olympic movement potentially posed by gambling. In particular Rogge’s fear is the threat that illegal bookmakers could attempt to corrupt athletes.
